STEP Academy is almost ready to conduct its 2025-2026 school year lottery. Enrollment invitation letters will be mailed out in early April, 2025. At that time, parents will need to follow the directions in the letter to submit complete applications in order to accept the enrollment spot. Responses to enrollment invitations must be made on time to avoid losing the enrollment spot.
STEP Academy will follow the following processes as part of its policy and procedures:
- enroll an eligible pupil who submits a timely application, unless the number of applications exceeds the capacity of a program, class, grade level, or building. In this case, pupils must be accepted by lot. STEP Academy has developed a lottery policy and process that it uses when accepting pupils by lot.
- give preference for enrollment to a sibling of an enrolled pupil and to a foster child of that pupil’s parents and may give preference for enrolling children of the school’s teachers before accepting other pupils by lot.
- not limit admission to pupils on the basis of intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, or athletic ability and may not establish any criteria or requirements for admission that are inconsistent with this subdivision.
- not distribute any services or goods of value to students, parents, or guardians as an inducement, term, or condition of enrolling a student in a charter school.
Families of student(s) who will be Five years old by September 1st of the school year they are enrolled must present a document that proves a child’s age. Documentation may include any of the following:
- a passport,
- a hospital birth record or physician’s certificate,
- a baptismal or religious certificate,
- an adoption record,
- health records,
- immunization records,
- immigration records,
- previously verified school records,
- early childhood screening records,
- Minnesota Immunization Information Connection records, or
- an affidavit from a parent.
While not required, we strongly recommend that students entering kindergarten complete an Early Childhood Screening at their Local School District (Early Childhood Screen information) prior to the first day of the school year.
